Does Hail Damage Affect Resale Value?
Yes. Unrepaired hail damage typically reduces a vehicle's value by 10 to 30 percent depending on severity, and a body shop repaint leaves a permanent refinish record that appraisers discount. Paintless dent repair restores the panels without touching the paint, so there is nothing for a buyer or a paint gauge to find.
Value is decided by two audiences: a buyer looking at reflections down the side of the car, and an appraiser with a paint depth gauge and a history report. Hail damage fails the first test. A repaint fails the second.
Unrepaired hail
Dimpled panels read as neglect even when the vehicle is mechanically perfect. Dealers apply a blanket recon deduction, usually higher than the actual repair would cost, because they have to price in uncertainty. Private buyers simply walk.
A hail-branded title or a recorded hail total loss is worse again, permanently attached to the vehicle regardless of the quality of any subsequent repair.
Why a repaint is not a clean fix

What PDR preserves
Because paintless repair adds nothing to the vehicle, there is no refinish entry, no paint depth anomaly and no colour mismatch to develop. The panel is the original panel with its original factory coating, returned to its original shape.
For a lease return this matters immediately — hail is chargeable wear, and a PDR repair before turn-in is almost always cheaper than the penalty. For a trade-in it protects your number. For a long-term keep, it protects the paint's actual corrosion protection, which a respray never quite replicates.

How much value does hail damage take off a car?
Light damage often costs 10 to 15 percent, heavier damage 20 to 30 percent or more, and it is usually more than the repair would have cost because buyers price in uncertainty.
Does paintless dent repair show up on Carfax?
An insurance claim you file can appear on a history report, and paintless dent repair does not change that. What it changes is the vehicle: no refinish work is performed, so the panel keeps its factory paint and shows no repaint at appraisal.
Should I repair hail before trading in?
